چکیده
*Corresponding Author: [email protected] Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate effects of testosterone propionate (TP) on the histological properties of heart in gonadectomized rabbits. Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits, 2.5-month-old, were selected in this study. The animals were divided into 3 operation groups: sham-operated control animals (Co), gonadectomy animals (Go) and testosterone administration (TA). Gonadectomized rabbit hearts were compared with hearts of sham-operated control animals and their testosterone induction. Heart diameter and length of left and right epicardium in gonadectomized animals do not have any statistically significant difference than sham-operated rabbits. Heart weight, right and left ventricle thickness, and right and left cardiac myocardium decreased statically in gonadectomized animals as compared to the control group and increased significantly (p<0.05) after testosterone administration.

Correlation between lipid-lowering and bone-protective effects of eicosapentaenoic acid in rats with steroid-induced bone loss
This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between lipid-lowering and bone-protective effects of eicosapentaenoic acid on steroid-induced bonechanges in rats. Twenty-one male 10-week-old Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups (n = 7 each) and treated with 0.9% NaCl SC (group 1) or methylprednisolone 7 mg/kg SC once a week (group 2) or methylprednisolone 7 mg/kg SC once a week + eic...
متن کاملEffect of Sulpiride on Translocator Protein (TSPO) Gene Expression and Histomorphometric Indices in the Testis of Rats under Physical or Psychological Stress
Introduction: It is well established that stress or the use of sulpiride, an antipsychotic, disrupts the reproductive system. Translocator protein (TSPO) in the mitochondrial membrane of steroidogenic tissues, such as gonads, is involved in the regulation of steroid hormone production by transporting cholesterol into the mitochondria. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of stress...
متن کاملModulation of extracellular atrioventricular node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm by morphine in experimental atrial fibrillation in isolated rabbit heart
Introduction: Endorphins are produced by cardiomyocytes, and exert different effects on the heart. The aim of the present study is to assess morphine effects on extracellular atrioventricular (AV) node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm of isolated rabbit heart during experimental atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Effects of different concentrations of morphine (10, 20, 50 and 1...
متن کاملEffect of nitric oxide modulation on the basic and rate-dependent electrophysiological properties of AV-node in the isolated heart of rabbit: The role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors
Introduction: Recent studies showed that nitrergic system have specific modulatory effects on electrophysiological properties of atrioventricular (AV) node. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on the electrophysiological properties of isolated rabbit AV node and to investigate the role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors in the mechanism of its action...
متن کاملPotential Role of Local Estrogen in Enhancement of Fracture Healing: Preclinical Study in Rabbits
Background: Effects of estrogen on bone metabolism and its protective role on prevention of osteoporosis are well documented. However, the efficacy of estrogen treatment on bone healing is not well investigated. The drug can be delivered both systemically or locally to the bone with differences in concentrations and side effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lo...
